Omni designed a leased, satellite-based, telecommunications system for the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) providing national and international telecommunications services between banking institutions and their agencies. The COMESA project technical study, which covered 23 member states from East, Central, and Southern African regions, was funded by the United States Trade and Development Agency and COMESA.

Somalia (Mogadishu)

Omni implemented the first privately owned telephone company in Mogadishu carrying international traffic via satellite to Norway, where it was connected to the terrestrial PSTN. The local company also implemented Smart Cards for local customers.
